Respiratory care team receives national recognition

Sept. 8, 2010, DANVILLE – The Respiratory Care Services team at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) was recognized by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC), a national quality organization.

Healthcare organizations receiving AARC’s Quality Respiratory Care Recognition designation meet strict safety and quality standards related to the delivery of respiratory care services by qualified respiratory therapists.

“This is the second-consecutive year we have earned this distinction and we are honored once again to be recognized for meeting the high standards set by the organization,” said Jennifer Small, RRT, BS, Operations Manager, Respiratory Care Services, GMC. “It confirms that our respiratory therapists are truly dedicated to providing the very best care to our patients.”

Respiratory therapists work with physicians to provide a wide range of breathing treatments and services to patients with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer and other lung-related problems. They also care for premature infants and play a key role as part of the lifesaving response teams that handle medical emergencies.

Geisinger is among one of 700 hospitals in the United States that has received this prestigious recognition. The GMC respiratory care team previously received the award in 2006, 2007 and 2009.
