DANVILLE, Pa. – Geisinger Health System President and Chief Executive Officer Glenn Steele Jr., M.D., Ph.D., has been named among Modern Healthcare magazine’s 50 Most Influential Physician Executives in Healthcare for the fourth consecutive year.

The 50 Most Influential Physician Executives in Healthcare was formerly known as the 50 Most Powerful Physician Executives in Healthcare. It was renamed to better reflect the skills needed to improve the healthcare delivery system in the post-healthcare reform era, including the ability to influence the implementation of innovative solutions to improve patient care.

“It is humbling to be recognized among my peers, especially the individuals included on this list, all of whom are highly regarded within the healthcare industry,” said Dr. Steele. “At Geisinger, we take pride in our innovative approaches to enhancing quality and value for our patients and health plan members, and it is an honor that these efforts are being recognized by our peers.”

Since Dr. Steele joined Geisinger in 2001, the health system has been successful in recruiting many highly esteemed and experienced physicians and researchers, updating and expanding medical facilities to bring Geisinger care closer to patients throughout central and northeast Pennsylvania and expanding the health system’s electronic health record system.

Geisinger’s ProvenCare® pay for performance and ProvenHealth Navigator® medical home initiatives have received accolades by leaders in Washington, D.C., as well as national media outlets. The health system also has repeatedly been identified as a successful model for national healthcare reform.
