Geisinger names new Associate Chief Medical Officer

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. –Gerald Maloney, D.O., was recently named the Associate Chief Medical Officer for Geisinger Northeast. He succeeds Anthony Aquilina, D.O., who was recently named the Chief Medical Officer at Geisinger – Community Medical Center in Scranton.

Dr. Maloney joined Geisinger in 2005, most recently serving as Geisinger Northeast’s director of Inpatient Medical Management and director of Palliative Medicine as well as chairman of the Department of Medicine at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (GWV). As associate chief medical officer, Dr. Maloney will oversee inpatient and outpatient medical care, performance, quality and workflow across the Geisinger Northeast platform.

Dr. Maloney obtained a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1980 and a master of science degree in human services administration from Misericordia University in Dallas, Pa. in 1986. He earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1995. Prior to joining Geisinger, he served as medical director at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, as well as Summit Health Care Center, Wilkes-Barre.
