DANVILLE, Pa. – Geisinger Careworks Walk-In Clinic in the Danville Weis Market Plaza was formally unveiled during a grand opening on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

The 1,200-square-foot clinic at 604 Continental Blvd. will be staffed from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., seven days a week, and no appointment is necessary. The staff of six new employees will treat acute illnesses and minor injuries, helping patients avoid unnecessary emergency room visits.

“Many people who go to emergency rooms are not in need of that level of treatment or want to pay the associated cost of such a facility,” said Ken Berndt, chief executive officer, Careworks. “Geisinger Careworks walk-in clinics allow patients to quickly see a nurse practitioner or physician assistant, leaving the more critical patients to be seen at Geisinger’s larger medical centers.”

The new $450,000 facility features two exam rooms, an X-ray unit, lab and a reception/waiting area. Its six-person staff includes a nurse practitioner, physician’s assistant, two X-ray technicians and two licensed practical nurses.

Walk-In clinics treat minor health problems such as allergies, asthma, infections, colds, cuts, fevers and sprains. These facilities offer patients very short wait times while simultaneously relieving some of the patient volume in area emergency rooms. Like the Geisinger clinics before it, patients visiting Geisinger Careworks Walk-In Clinic in Danville will have access to services including immunizations, labs, X-rays, EKG and IV therapy.

“Many people face the dilemma of waiting overnight to see a family physician or visiting an emergency room,” Berndt said. “Opening walk-in clinics eliminates this decision and provides the residents of Danville and the surrounding area excellent medical care with superior convenience.”
