Sept. 21, 2010, DANVILLE - For the third year in a row, Geisinger Health Plan has been ranked the top health plan in Pennsylvania and fifth in the nation according to the National Committee for Quality Assurance's (NCQA) Health Insurance Plan Rankings-Private 2010-11 list. Previously, these rankings were known as U.S. News & World Report – America's Best Health Insurance Plans. To view the listing, go to www.ncqa.org.
The partnership between GHP and Geisinger Health System plays a major role in the ranking. Partnership allows Geisinger to innovate care to improve the quality of care for members and patients. The accomplishments of this innovation are applied to both Geisinger and non-Geisinger providers to benefit patients, members and the entire community.
Why is this ranking important?
When someone is a member of a highly ranked plan such as Geisinger Health Plan, it means they receive better care. Kids are more likely to see their doctor and receive important immunizations that guard them from illnesses such as chicken pox and pneumonia. Adults are more likely to remain on medications which prevent future heart attacks. And women are more likely to receive screenings that detect breast and cervical cancer early.
This ranking supports the quality and value that Geisinger Health Plan offers our employees and all its members. The Medicare Advantage rankings will be released Oct. 17.
