Nov. 5, 2010, WILKES-BARRE – The The Richard and Marion Pearsall Heart Hospital at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (GWV) was recently designated a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care® by Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
The Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care designation is awarded to medical facilities that display a commitment to quality care and have a history of better outcomes for cardiac patients. Facilities are judged on evidence-based criteria and must meet national standards that are formulated by expert physicians and medical organizations.
This is the first time GWV has earned this distinction.
“Being designated a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care recognizes Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center as a facility that delivers exceptional care to cardiac patients,” said Alfred Casale, M.D., Associate Chief Medical Officer, Geisinger Health System, and Co-Director, Geisinger Heart Institute. “We continually strive to produce the best possible patient outcomes, and it is certainly gratifying to be recognized for our efforts.”
GWV is one of 40 medical facilities in Pennsylvania and one of approximately 410 facilities nationwide to be designated a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care. Geisinger Medical Center in Danville was designated a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care in 2009.
