Health system earns information technology award for ninth straight year

DANVILLE, Pa.- Geisinger Health System has been listed among the country’s “100 Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems.” The list, compiled by Hospitals & Health Networks Magazine, names winners from 1,280 hospitals nationwide. This is Geisinger’s ninth selection to the “Most Wired” list.

“Geisinger has invested a great deal of time and resources into refining the electronic health record with the ultimate goal of enhancing patient care and satisfaction,” said Glenn Steele Jr., M.D., Ph.D., chief executive officer, Geisinger Health System. “It is an honor to be recognized among the nation’s most innovative, patient-focused healthcare providers who exemplify a dedication to maximizing the value of modern healthcare.”

The annual “Most Wired” recognitions are the results of hundreds of surveys, which undergo a stringent, detailed scoring process. For 2011, the survey process was redesigned after a two-year process with an advisory group comprised of leaders from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, chief information officers, “Most Wired” staff and vendors. The new structure places an increased emphasis on analytics and health system reporting.

“Over the course of the past year, our use of the electronic health record has allowed us to enter into multiple research and information-sharing consortiums with several nationally recognized healthcare providers,” said Frank Richards, chief information officer, Geisinger Health System. “Being mentioned among the nation’s ‘Most Wired’ health systems reaffirms Geisinger’s place alongside the most technologically sophisticated health systems in the country.”
