SCRANTON, Pa. – James R. Bosscher, M.D., gynecological oncologist, recently began offering outreach services at Geisinger-Community Medical Center (G-CMC) – 1800 Mulberry Street. Dr. Bosscher will see patients at this location every other Friday.
A comprehensive specialist and the founder of northeastern Pennsylvania’s first gynecologic oncology clinic at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center’s Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Cancer Center, Wilkes-Barre, Dr. Bosscher performs surgeries and chemotherapy on ovarian, uterine, cervical, vaginal, vulva and abdominal lining cancers.
A board-certified gynecologic oncologist, Dr. Bosscher received his medical degree from Wayne State University, Detroit, Mich., in 1979, and then completed his residency at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, and his gynecologic oncology fellowship at Uniformed Services - University of the Health Sciences, Washington, D.C.
He is the former chief of the division of gynecologic oncology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md., and former chief of the department of obstetrics and gynecology, 85th Army Evacuation Hospital, Desert Shield-Desert Storm, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Bosscher left the military to become an associate professor at the University of Louisville Medical School for six years. He then moved to Missouri to start a gynecologic oncology practice with Mercy Health System, where he practiced for 11 years prior to joining Geisinger. Dr. Bosscher is also trained in DaVinci robotic surgery, completing the master’s course in Da Vinci robotics in 2012.
