DANVILLE, Pa. – Employees of Geisinger Health System donated nearly $380,000 to the United Way during the health system’s annual employee campaign.
Geisinger’s 2011 United Way campaign set new records for total donations, concluding with employee contributions of $379,754.50 to 16 different United Way organizations falling within Geisinger's service area. This total far exceeded the campaign’s goal of $250,000, and the previous record of $317,002 set last year.
In addition, Geisinger Health System made two, $100,000 contributions to the United Way to be distributed to the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross, bringing Geisinger’s total contribution to the United Way to $579,754.50.
“The Geisinger mission and the goal of United Way share a common purpose: to improve the quality of life for people in our local communities,” said Glenn Steele Jr., M.D., Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Geisinger Health System. “At a time when our region faces serious hardship as a result of the Flood of 2011 and the nation continues to face serious economic challenges, Geisinger employees demonstrated their compassion, generosity and commitment to improving the quality of life for those in need.”
Geisinger’s 2011 United Way campaign kicked off on Sept. 12 and concluded on Nov. 30.
