FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DANVILLE, Pa. – Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) was recently designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in all of the College’s voluntary, breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.
“Being named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence is further affirmation of Geisinger’s commitment to its patients and their well-being,” said Anne Dunne, MD, section head of mammography, GMC. “As health care providers, we stress the importance of regular breast exams and it is our hope that having an exam performed at a nationally accredited facility will encourage more women to take the preventive health measures necessary to ensure long-term health.”
In accordance with the ACR accreditation, the breast imaging services at GMC are fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designations are a result of peer-reviewed evaluations in each breast imaging modality conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists. By excelling in these areas, GMC is determined to have achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
Both GMC and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre are ACR Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence and accredited through the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).
