FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DANVILLE, Pa. – Geisinger Health System has purchased five Xenex room disinfection systems to be spread between several hospitals: one each at Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital, Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital (G-SACH) and Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, a campus of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (GWV), and two at Geisinger-Community Medical Center (G-CMC) in Scranton.
Geisinger hospitals have been utilizing Xenex room disinfection technology for several years. Three units are currently in use at Geisinger Medical Center and two reside at GWV in Wilkes-Barre. Xenex room disinfection systems complement standard cleaning processes in high-risk areas such as operating and intensive care rooms. The portable units use pulsing ultra-violet (UV) light to kill microorganisms and sterilize patient rooms.
“As Geisinger Health System continues to grow, ensuring all our facilities have the latest, most effective technology is a top priority, especially when it comes to keeping our patients safe from viruses and infections,” said Bruce Thomas, vice president, guest services, Geisinger Health System. “It has been our experience that the Xenex disinfection systems are extremely successful at providing a clean, safe environment for patients, visitors and staff alike.”
According to its manufacturer, the Xenex room disinfection system takes approximately 10 minutes to fully disinfect a patient room and is effective on all surfaces, including glass.
