FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DANVILLE, Pa. – Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) was honored for outstanding performance in reducing readmission rates with an award by Highmark Quality Blue at its Quality Blue Best Practices Forum last month.
GMC has been participating in Highmark’s Quality Blue readmission indicator, which has encouraged hospitals to reach out into their communities and work collaboratively with caregivers, physician practices and facilities to ensure that those patients’ needs are being met across the continuum. The hospital was presented the award for exceeding all indicator measures and demonstrating the highest percent change in providing defect-free care, comparing first to third quarter.
Kessey Kieselhorst, MPA, RD, LDN, CPHQ, director of regulatory performance improvement, Geisinger Health System (GHS); and Andrea Koch, RN, BSN, manager of quality measurement and reporting, GHS, accepted the award at the Nov. 8 forum at the Four Points by Sheraton, Pittsburgh North in Mars, Pa.
“We would like to express sincere thanks to the team, led by Dr. John Bulger (D.O., MBA, chief quality officer, GHS) and Andrea Koch, who worked on this indicator to provide high quality and safe care for the patients at Geisinger Medical Center,” Kieselhorst said. “We are proud of the fact that the care our patients are receiving is resulting in fewer returns to GMC.”
