DANVILLE, Pa. — Michael Haak, M.D., recently joined Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) as an orthopaedic spine surgeon.
Prior to joining Geisinger, Dr. Haak served as an associate professor in the department of orthopaedic surgery at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Chicago, Ill., since 2008. He was also attending physician in orthopaedic surgery, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, since 1995 and the director of the spine surgery fellowship at Northwestern.
Earning his medical degree in 1984 from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Dr. Haak is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Spinal Cord Medicine, the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the National Board of Medical Examiners.
Dr. Haak completed a fellowship in spinal surgery in 1991 with the Midwest Regional Acute Spine Injury Center at the Northwestern University Medical School. He also completed an orthopaedic surgery residency in 1990 at Brooke Army Center, Ft. Sam, Houston, Texas, and a general surgery internship in 1985 at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center, Aurora, Colo.
He holds membership in several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Haak will be inducted as president of the American Spinal Injury Association in May. In 2012, he was also named one of Chicago’s Top Doctors by Chicago Magazine and Castle-Connelly.
