DANVILLE/COAL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A ceremony on Wednesday, Jan. 11, marked the 100th anniversary of Shamokin Area Community Hospital (SACH) and its merger into Geisinger Medical Center.
Glenn Steele Jr., M.D., Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Geisinger Health System (GHS); Tom Sokola, chief administrative officer of Geisinger Medical Center (GMC); and Tom Harlow, chief administrative officer of Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, a campus of GMC (G-SACH), all offered comments at the event.
A ceremonial tree planting was conducted to symbolize growth, and tree saplings were given to all new employees.
The full merger and integration of Shamokin Area Community Hospital into GMC became official at midnight Jan. 1, 2012.
