ADMI program to address teaching students with executive functioning deficits

ADMI teaming up with Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit for Nov. 6 program in Milton

MILTON, Pa. -- Geisinger’s Autism & Developmental Medicine Institute (ADMI) is offering a free program for teachers to work more effectively with students who have deficits in executive function, or mental skills that help an individual get things done. Executive function skills are controlled by the brain’s frontal lobe.

“From the Clinic to the Classroom: Strategies to Support Students with Executive Functioning Deficits,” will take place on Friday, Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit (CSIU) Conference and Learning Center, 90 Lawton Lane, Milton.

The program will feature presentations by Cora M. Taylor, Ph.D., a pediatric psychologist at Geisinger’s ADMI; and Barbara Haas-Givler, M.Ed., BCBA, director of education and behavioral outreach, ADMI. After their presentations, participants will be able to:

  • define executive functioning and how it affects schoolwork, daily living and social skills
  • identify children with executive functioning deficits
  • select strategies to support these students
