JOB SUMMARY:

The Position:

Geisinger has an immediate opening for a new Health/Adult Clinical Psychologist. We are expanding our team of health psychologists due to increasing requests from the medical center for our services. As the major specialty clinic in the area, Geisinger serves patients with medical disorders as well as primary psychological/behavioral disorders. Psychologists are integrated throughout Geisinger and we continue to develop new programs to enhance patient care by bringing psychological expertise to the patients in unique ways. We are looking for an adaptable, broadly trained psychologist to join our vibrant and growing practice.

Current Programs:

  •      Primary Care
  •      Pain (interventional pain, chronic pain patients)
  •       Sleep
  •       Breast Cancer Clinic
  •       Lung Cancer Clinic
  •      Sarcoma-Bone Cancer Clinic
  •       Bone Marrow transplant Team
  •      Cardiology (preventative cardiology, cardiac rehab)
  •       Bariatric Surgery
  •       Training physicians in patient communication skills
 
Programs in Development:
  •       Pain (spine triage team)
  •       GI Cancer Clinic
  •       Congestive Heart Failure Clinic
  •       STEMI Team (intervention with post myocardial infarction patients in the hospital)
  •       Training in Motivational Interviewing for Medical Home Care Managers, cardiac fellows, congestive heart failure staff
 
Responsibilities: The position responsibilities would include providing clinical services and teaching. In addition, there will be opportunities to be involved in research.
 
Clinical: Provide a full range of clinical services to adults with medical, and/or psychological disorders. Collaborate with physicians in various types of integrated care and lead continually improving programs.  Psychologists serve as valued members of multidisciplinary teams within Hematology, Oncology, Cardiology, Pain, Primary Care, Bariatric Surgery, Sleep Medicine, Outpatient Psychiatry, and conduct clinician-patient communications training.
 
Teaching: Training of psychology and medical students is an integral part of our mission. Provide clinical supervision for and teach psychology residents in our APA-accredited internship, as well as postdoctoral fellows, medical residents and medical students. A clinical faculty appointment is available at Temple Medical School.
 
Opportunities:
 
Program development: Many opportunities exist to create new integrated practice options throughout the system. We are well respected in the hospital and as a result are frequently asked to provide services in new areas. In addition, we have been welcomed in new areas where we suggested our services would be of benefit. 
 
Research: Although research is not a required part of the position, research projects are encouraged, especially outcome research. 
 
Requirements:
 
PhD or PsyD from an APA-accredited graduate program
Completion of APA-accredited internship
Pennsylvania license eligible (requires one year postdoctoral supervision)
Health Care experience
 
Preferred Qualifications:
 
Two years post-licensure experience
Graduate training/internship with Health Psychology focus.

An interest in integrated care for pain, primary care, and sleep. Other specialty interests will be considered.
 

Geisinger Medical Center
