Long history of community care
When Geisinger expanded its footprint beyond Danville more than three decades ago, with the goal of bringing quality care to rural communities, the first physician office it opened was in Philipsburg. Today, Geisinger-Philipsburg continues to bring quality healthcare to residents of the Moshannon Valley.
Our local physicians offer appointments in family practice, internal medicine, women's health and pediatrics, as well as a number of specialties such as urology, rheumatology, pulmonology, cardiology, nephrology, neurology and general surgery. On-site conveniences include a laboratory, a sleep lab, a pharmacy, digital mammography and radiology services. In addition, our connection to the vast resources of Geisinger Health System gives us access to the latest research and education, which translates into the most current, proven treatments for you as a patient.
Throughout the year, we also extend our experience to the community through screenings, programs and information at area health events.
Geisinger's Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Program, staffed by CPSL physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, provides both acute and transitional care to patients living in area nursing homes, enhancing the care they already receive from nursing home staff. The SNF Program streamlines patient transition from physician offices or hospitals to the nursing home and improves patient outcomes to reduce the need for hospitalization, working closely with nursing home staff to coordinate and improve patient care.

In April, Geisinger-Philipsburg celebrates its 40th year providing health care to the residents of Philipsburg and surrounding communities.
Originally established in April 1974 as Moshannon Valley Medical Association with primary care physicians William Harvey, M.D., James Harvey, M.D., and Peter Guillard, M.D.; surgeon Pedro Nartatez, M.D., and urologist Renato Macaranas, M.D., the group joined the Geisinger Health System in 1981.
Since that time, Geisinger-Philipsburg has expanded to a multi-specialty medical group that offers not only family medicine, but pediatrics, internal medicine, neurology, cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, nephrology, obstetrics/gynecology, pulmonology, rheumatology, general surgery and urology.
Geisinger-Philipsburg also provides an expanded range of ancillary services including laboratory, digital radiology, mobile MRI, mobile CT, ultrasound, vascular lab, echocardiograms, Holter monitor testing, pulmonary function tests, telemedicine, mobile DXA scans, digital mammography, EMGs, EEGs, coagulation clinic and nutrition services.
In addition, Geisinger-Philipsburg offers patients the ability to electronically access their health records. Through MyGeisinger.org, patients can view their lab results, email their providers, directly schedule their own appointments and order prescription refills.
For patients covered by Geisinger Gold and/or Medicare, Geisinger-Philipsburg has nurse case managers through its ProvenHealth Navigator program who coordinate care between doctors and specialists, explain how to take medications and avoid interactions, schedule doctor appointments and, if necessary, arrange for community support services. The benefit for patients is coordinated care, reduced hospitalizations and fewer trips to the emergency room.
Geisinger-Philipsburg employs more than 70 people including nine physicians and two physician assistants who provide care in 15 different areas of medicine. As it has for the past 40 years, Geisinger-Philipsburg is committed to providing high-quality, comprehensive care to the residents of Philipsburg and the Moshannon Valley area.
